Holland banning DRM? No.
Via TorrentFreak (and this discussion on Techmeme) I came across an article (in Dutch) where two politicians (Martijn van Dam & Nicolien van Vroonhoven) are proposing to tax ISP subscriptions in order to compensate the losses of the music industry as a result of illegal filesharing. In exchange there would be a ban on the use of DRM.
Martijn (PVDA) denies (in Dutch) this story on his personal weblog, claiming he was misinterpreted. He explains his real point of view in which he states such a tax is just a hypothetical alternative to an existing proposal where the sale of music carriers would be taxed. But he believes the music industry would never abandon DRM, therefore this alternative is not seriously considered by anyone. He makes a lot of (typical) shortsighted statements in his reasoning on this topic however, it’s too bad people like him are not helping the entertainment industry understand how they can make money…

het aloude bit tax verhaal wordt weer eens fijn uit de motteballen gehaald. Inmiddels al tien jaar oud.
